New Service for West Midlands Families
12th August 2020
We are delighted to be a delivery partner in a vital new service for children and young people who are missing out on support during the coronavirus pandemic. ‘See, Hear, Respond’, managed by Barnardo’s and funded by the Department for Education, includes a coalition of charities working as local delivery partners.
Anyone can refer a child or young person to the service, which is free and confidential. Autistic children across the whole of the West Midlands will be referred to Autism West Midlands to provide phone/on-line advice sessions, one-to-one Zoom sessions, Zoom support groups and support with reintegrating back into school.
This new service is a great opportunity for families outside of our normally funded areas to access our support. Families in Worcestershire, Warwickshire, Staffordshire, Herefordshire and Telford & Wrekin can now self-refer or be referred by a professional to us via Barnardo’s telephone and online referral service. We will also be able to increase our support in our funded areas, particularly to families in Birmingham and the Black Country where our funding is limited.
Barnardo’s West Midlands regional director Hugh Sherriffe said:
“The coronavirus pandemic has meant that vulnerable children and young people have been ‘hidden’ from vital support services. This initiative is a vital lifeline which will help them to navigate the pandemic and its aftermath, improving their long-term prospects so they can enjoy a successful future.”
